Ochre’s Groundscape

This section of the Wienerwald, I had frequented many times before whilst making paintings previously.

I was keen to make a painting from a random chosen part of the wood, focusing on the forever changing forest floor, the ground.

I liked the clear horizon line in the far distance, looking upward through the wood. The fact there was light coming from the back of the composition through the distant trees.

There was nothing beyond those distant trees, which is unusual for a wood, only a field behind.

The painting was begun at the end of autumn and the onset of winter, the final weeks of any autumnal leaves, and before any snow fall.

The forest floor covered with leaves, provided an abundance of orange, red, and brown, a perfect content for the painting not distracting from the very simple composition.

The majority of my paintings are made from drawings done in mid-morning, 'noon-light'. I like this time of day when the light comes from directly above and is not too distracting, or changeable. Do you like my art? Then take a look at more of my artworks on my profile page.
