Bereits als Kind hatte Rainer Krippenfiguren aus Holz geschnitzt und sp\u00e4ter die Kunst des Musikinstrumentenbaus studiert. Er bestand seine Gesellenpr\u00fcfung in den Bereichen der Streich- und Blechblasinstrumente in den fr\u00fchen 1980er Jahren. Nach sieben Jahren zog es ihn zunehmend zur Bildhauerei und 1987 absolvierte Rainer die Bildhauerpr\u00fcfung in Wien.\n\nMit seinen Arbeiten will Sebastian Rainer soziale Entwicklungen zeigen und Emotionen wecken.\n\nIn den letzten Jahren widmete er seine Skulpturen dem Thema der Migration nach Europa, insbesondere mit dem Modell \"Lampedusa - Das Boot ist voll?\", wie der zunehmende Massentourismus beim Bergsteigen auf Bergen wie dem Mount Everest oder dem Matterhorn.
