Year 2018
Leo Mayr lives and works in Vienna and is an Austrian painter, sculptor, printmaker and draftsman with roots in Upper Traun and Hausruckviertel in Upper Austria. He completed his training as a graphic and communications designer in Linz, and then performed the memorial service from 2010 to 2011. His experiences from that time are still incorporated into his artistic work to this day, and he has been studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna since 2012. Initially in the class for graphic arts and printmaking technique of Gunter Damisch his death with Veronika Dirnhofer and currently with Christian Schwarzwald 2018. He made an exchange semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the painting class of Vladimír Skrepl. His work deals with the absurdities and peculiarities of human behavior. In an expressive way, he negotiates interpersonal relationships, political states and the associated emotions. A special focus is on our interaction with each other and the surrounding object culture. Seen from this perspective, his ceramic works in particular tell us no concrete stories, but much more about the personalities of the depicted characters.
